Community Planting Day

Darwin International Airport (DIA) staff recently got together with volunteers from Rapid Creek Landcare Group (RCLG) and the local area for another sweaty tree planting session. Over the course of a humid build-up afternoon, more than 200 trees and shrubs were planted along a section of the Gurambai walking trail in the airport’s Rapid Creek reserve.

The Rapid Creek reserve is a 75 metre wide buffer zone that helps protect its riparian vegetation (the plants and trees along the banks that keep the waterway healthy). The Gurambai walking trail runs through this reserve, making a loop in a woodland area near the head of the creek – the paths in the creek section have recently been upgraded, and works on the woodland section of the path are due to begin in next year’s dry season.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for your huge efforts. Learn about the Rapid Creek walks on airport and Rapid creek Landcare Group.
