Darwin International Airport seeking new shuttle bus service provider

Darwin International Airport’s management and staff were sad to see the closing of local business Darwin Airport Shuttle this week. Darwin Airport Shuttle was run by a hardworking Darwin family and has been providing an invaluable service to the community for over 17 years. Unfortunately, on Wednesday 6th April, the business went into liquidation.

The Ground Transport team for Darwin International Airport and other key stakeholders are working on a long-term shuttle bus solution for the community. In the interim, Metro Mini Bus has kindly taken on all shuttle operations to and from the airport. In the true spirit of the Territory, Metro Mini Bus has offered to honour all existing pre-paid bookings, to ease any pressure this unfortunate situation may put on passengers.

According to operator Bill Piantoni, the decision to help out was an easy one.

“We want to help ensure a smooth transition for tourists visiting Darwin, and for the locals too. Darwin Metro Mini Bus will honour any existing booking until Sunday 17th of April, when proof of purchase is shown to our drivers at the terminal.”

Darwin Airport Shuttle’s existing licence agreement was due to expire in June 2016. The tender process for the new operator from this date is underway. Any Expressions Of Interests (EOI) to take on this valuable transport service from the terminal should be directed to: tenders@ntairports.com.au

All enquiries relating to the liquidation, please refer to Ryan Iddamalgoda from Meertens Chartered Accountants on 8941 3122.

Providing a range of transportation options for customers is important to Darwin International Airport and we are working hard to ensure the impact on the public is minimal.
